As commitment to teaching adds another dimension to a musician,

Tiruvarur Vaidyanathan with his ability to shape budding musicians and morph them into professional performers has made his mark as a teacher in the field of percussion.

He served SIFAS, Singapore as a full time teaching faculty from 2000 to 2003. During this period, he identified young promising talent and trained them to perform at higher levels. He was the first in Singapore to guide Mridangam students to Arangetram standards where four of his SIFAS disciples gave Arangetram (debut concert) in mridangam and presently have been performing in various concerts too.

On his return to India in 2003, he had set up the Tiruvarur Talavadya Vidyalaya in Chennai, India, where he is training students intensively. He is also training a number of students all over the world through the Internet.

He has been able to groom students to the Arangetram standards and thus share his knowledge with the younger generation. His students who have graduated to the level of stage performers include Ramasubramanian (Chennai, 2004), accompanying well-known vocalist Suryaprakash, Pratheeban Seenivasagam (Toronto, Canada in August 2006), who accompanied Padma Shri Sudha Raghunathan and Vijay Ramamurthy in Houston, Texas (August 2006).

He has developed a simplified teaching methodology for his students whereby, with the assistance of systematic course material, instructional audio CDs and DVDs, a student is able to achieve performing standards in a short period.
